Access Walk Grant Application is Now Open, Deadline is March 15

Access Walk, in its second year, has just opened its annual grant application. Organizations that meet the criteria for the grants can apply online. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2024.

Access Walk, which will take place Sept. 14, 2024, at Volunteer Park, fulfills its mission and vision by raising funds to support regional organizations that provide access to safe abortion services, specifically client travel expenses.

“We recognize that organizations providing access to abortion services typically have minimal staffing and financial resources, particularly as more states like Washington are seeing double-digit increases in patients seeking reproductive healthcare services banded or severely restricted in their states, such as Idaho,” said Jeffrey Pyatt, whose family started Access Walk in 2023 after the fallout of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. “Many individuals face large financial hurdles when they are forced to travel long distances and pay for meals and hotel stays. Our grant helps organizations fund those travel expenses and help foster equity for individuals seeking abortion services.”

Cedar River Clinics was the inaugural grant recipient. The grant funding, which will be a minimum of $10,000 per organization, can be used to support the following client needs:

  • Travel – airfare, fuel, etc.
  • Accommodations
  • Meals
  • Childcare Expenses

The funds cannot be used to pay for the abortion procedure.

Apply for the grant today, or share this information with an organization you think would benefit from the Access Walk grant funds.

History of Access Walk

After the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Dobbs case in June 2022, Jeff, Paula and Madeline Pyatt, seeing the national outcry for access to safe abortion services, decided to take action to raise awareness and funds through a community walking event – Access Walk.

The inaugural event took place Sunday, Sept. 24, at Volunteer Park in Seattle and raised $100,000 that was granted to Cedar River Clinics. The second-annual Access Walk takes place Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Volunteer Park.
