About Us
Access Walk: Seattle to DC is a nationwide, virtual movement raising funds to remove the financial barriers people face when they must travel for abortion care.
In the aftermath of Roe’s reversal, people across the country are being forced to cross state lines—sometimes hundreds of miles—for basic healthcare. The cost of travel, meals, childcare, lodging, and lost wages makes care inaccessible for many. Our goal is to help cover those costs and to support the regional clinics and grassroots organizations that make abortion access possible.
Since its founding, Access Walk has awarded over $160,000 to organizations like Cedar River Clinics (WA) and Lilith Clinic (OR). These frontline providers serve not only local communities but also people traveling from states with abortion bans or severe restrictions.
What is Access Walk?
Access Walk is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reproductive freedom through direct support. Each year, we mobilize a community of walkers and fundraisers who believe everyone deserves access to safe, legal abortion care—regardless of geography or income.
Our signature event, Access Walk: Seattle to DC, is a fully virtual and challenges each participant to walk 14 miles (symbolizing the distance from Idaho to the nearest abortion services provider) and raise $25 per mile to support real-world travel costs for abortion care.
Together, our goal is to walk 2,800 miles—the distance from Seattle to Washington, DC—and raise $70,000 to fund travel-related support for abortion seekers.
Who We Are
Access Walk was founded by the Pyatt family in 2022 in response to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and removed federal protections for abortion access. Fueled by the national outcry and the stories of individuals forced to travel extraordinary distances for care, they took action.
What started as a local walk in Seattle has now evolved into a nationwide, virtual campaign. Every year, we grow this movement by inviting people everywhere to walk, fundraise, and speak out in support of reproductive justice.
